Description
Flora Davis Maull (American, 1904-2001) Bronze Sculpture. Unsigned Art Deco nude sculpture of a young woman. Sculpture may have been intended for use as a fountain centerpiece. Measures 27.5 inches high, 11 inches wide. Weight 25 pounds. Rich dark patina mounted on a round dark marble base. Acquired from the Maull family summer estate - Shelter Island, New York. Labeled under the base, Fountain Figure (1929) by Flora Davis Maull, Vassar College 1925. Property of Mrs. Baldwin Maull 25 Alexander St. Princeton, NJ 08540. Possibly cast at Roman Bronze Works. Her husband Baldwin Maull is listed in the artist's archives of the Roman Bronze Works. In good condition.

Flora Davis Maull was an American artist born in 1904 She grew up in Miami, Florida, and later moved to the Washington D.C. area where she began her career in the arts. Maull was a versatile artist, working in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Her work often explored the natural world, and she was particularly known for her depictions of birds and other wildlife. Maull studied at the University of Miami and later at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington D.C. She went on to earn her MFA from American University. She taught at several institutions, including the Corcoran College of Art and Design and Georgetown University. Throughout her career, Maull received numerous awards and honors for her work, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and a Fulbright Scholarship. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and is held in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, among others. Maull passed away on October 10, 2001.
