Larry Rivers (American, 1923-2002) Print. Title - Queen of Clubs. Lithograph and screenprint in colors (1979), printed by Styria Studios, watermark lower left. Signed lower right Larry Rivers 79. Edition 102/200. Sheet measures 29.5 inches high, 22.2 inches wide. Frame measures 32.2 inches high, 24.7 inches wide, with a floating mount and acrylic sheet. In good condition with light toning around borders. From the estate of Terry and Carol Southern. Examined out of the frame and discovered that the inside of the frame at the bottom is inscribed Carol Southern, who was the wife of the author Terry Southern.

Larry Rivers (1923-2002) was an American artist and musician who is associated with the Pop Art movement. He was born in the Bronx, New York City. Rivers studied at the Juilliard School of Music and the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts in New York City. In the 1950s, he emerged as a leading figure in the Pop Art movement and became known for his paintings, sculptures, and prints that combined elements of popular culture and everyday life. Rivers often used his own life as inspiration for his artwork, and many of his paintings featured images of himself, his family, and his friends. He was also known for his portraits of famous figures, including Marilyn Monroe, Frank O'Hara, and Willem de Kooning. In addition to his work as an artist, Rivers was also a talented jazz musician and played the saxophone and clarinet. He often incorporated music into his artwork and collaborated with other musicians, including the jazz pianist Cecil Taylor. Throughout his career, Rivers was the recipient of many awards and honors, including the National Medal of Arts in 1992. His artwork has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world and can be found in many public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London. Larry Rivers passed away in 2002 in Southampton, New York. He is remembered as a pioneering figure in the Pop Art movement and as one of the most important American artists of the 20th century.
