Frederick Carl Smith (American, 1868-1955) Painting. Title - La Jolla Coastal Scene. Oil on artist board California painting. Signed lower right Carl Smith. Measures 13.8 inches high, 17.9 inches inches wide. Frame measures 15.6 inches high, 19.6 inches wide. In good condition. Cleaned and restored with inpainting and two tiny chips of paint loss.
From Askart.com: Known as a portrait painter, Frederick Carl Smith (1868-1955) was born in Cincinnati and studied at the Cincinnati Art School, the Ohio Mechanics' Institute, and the Academie Julian in Paris with Bouguereau, Ferrier and Constant. For seventeen years, he worked in Washington D.C. as a portraitist and then moved to Pasadena, California in 1917. There he was active in the Laguna Beach art community and a founding member of that art association. He also painted marines.
