Rookwood Modernist Design Pottery Vase. Base Mark, Date Code 1918, Number and Artist Initials C.J.M. Height 6" Charles Jasper McLaughlin American 1888-1964. Charles was born in Kentucky. He attended the Cincinnati Art Academy in 1905 and later studied landscape painting at the Sorbonne in Paris. McLaughlin worked as an artist at Rookwood pottery between 1913 and 1920, producing mostly Vellum Glaze landscapes. From 1927 to 1929 he taught architecture at the Texas A & M College, and by the early 1930's he returned to Cincinnati to once again study painting at the Cincinnati Art Academy. This is a rare and unique art piece by the artist.
