Description
This is the earliest known stock certificate (number 6) for the Denver, Cripple Creek, and Southwestern Railroad Company. Issued on January 10, 1896 for one share of $100 capital stock to William A. Borot, the railroad was formed for the purpose of running a line from Denver, through Cripple Creek and Victor, silver Cliff, and then on to New Mexico and Arizona. However, this never materialized and the Colorado and Southern bought the railroad’s franchise in 1899 for the use as a basis of a line built in 1902 from South Platte to Nighthawk. The DCC&S was dissolved in 1913. Less than a handful of these certificates are known to exist. Extremely rare, and the earliest one known!
