Bert Stern (1929-2013) was an American photographer known for his work in fashion and advertising, as well as his portraits of celebrities. He was born in New York City and studied at the Art Students League and the New School for Social Research.
Stern's most famous work is arguably his photo shoot with Marilyn Monroe, known as "The Last Sitting." The photos were taken in 1962, just six weeks before Monroe's death, and have become iconic images of the actress. Stern's other notable subjects included Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy, and Brigitte Bardot.
In addition to his photography, Stern also directed several films, including the documentary "Jazz on a Summer's Day," which documented the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. Stern passed away in 2013 at the age of 83.
