Cindy Sherman is an American photographer and artist born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. She is widely recognized as one of the most important artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, and is best known for her series of conceptual photographic portraits.Sherman's work often features herself as the subject, adopting various identities and personas to explore themes such as identity, gender, and the representation of women in popular culture. She uses costumes, makeup, and prosthetics to transform herself into a variety of characters, from Hollywood stars to historical figures to grotesque and surreal creatures.Her photographs have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, and she has been the subject of numerous retrospectives and solo exhibitions.
