AN ARCHAISTIC JADE CONG, QING DYNASTY OR EARLIER
China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or earlier. Carved in the style of the Liangzhu culture, showing fine detailing achieved through precise and intricate hand-carving and chiseling methods. Of evenly worked cylindrical form, carved with four taotie masks on a fine geometrical ground. The opaque stone of a cream tone with darker shadings, russet inclusions, and surface alterations.
Condition: Overall good condition with minor wear, some nibbling here and there, small losses and fissures.
Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent. Acquired in the Hong Kong antiques market in the early 1990s.
