Louis Trinquier-Trianon (French, 1853-1922). "Briancon: Paris, Lyon, Mediterranee" lithographic poster in colors, ca. 1900. Published by F. Champenois, Paris, France. An original travel poster featuring artwork by Louis Trinquier-Trianon, a French artist who was best known for turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau travel posters. At an elevation of 1,326 meters, Briancon is the highest city in France. Trinquier-Trianon certainly captured its unique beauty with his stylized composition, featuring a picturesque view of the town as well as the snow-capped Alps. The circular inset at the lower right presents a charming scene with figures in period dress before Briancon's Terminus Hotel. Built between the 18th and 20th centuries, Briancon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with intriguing historic fortifications. In addition, it has been a popular destination for skiers as well as a curative resort. A stunning original French travel poster by Hugo d'Alesi mounted in an attractive custom frame. This is an original poster (not a reproduction) that is linen backed and mounted under glass in a custom matte and frame. The poster has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in overall very good condition with slight wear commensurate with age. Framing is excellent save a few minute scuffs/nicks that are difficult to see. Fit with suspension wire and ready to display.
