Elizabeth McNitt (American, XX-XXI). Untitled ceramic vessel, n.d. Signed underfoot. A large, hand-painted ceramic spouted vessel by Elizabeth McNitt. The vessel presents a voluminous piriform body rising to a narrow neck and culminating in a flared mouth, with twin loop handles joining rim to shoulder and six flared cylindrical spouts emerging from the shoulder. All is hand painted a warm sunburst orange with the interior walls of the spouts embellished in red and the body adorned by nested bands of continuous zigzagging bands in aqua, red, lime green, violet, and lavender hues. A stunning piece by Elizabeth McNitt whose ceramics are influenced by her exploration of multiculturalism. Size: 16.75" W x 14.75" H (42.5 cm x 37.5 cm)
Artist statement: "I work from personal experiences that provoke strong feelings and point to unresolved perceptions and issues. The paintings integrate different aspects of an experience into a visual image, creating a context for understanding the experience … I paint life size. It reflects the human scale and the human dynamic. I also try to express our metaphysical ability to create our own reality. The pots and bandejas are an extension of my interest in multi-culturalism; their surfaces and shapes continually inspire."
