Description
Cho Gessho Yukisada, c.1772-1832, FUKEI GASO, "Thicket of Pictures Without Shape" with text by Hata Kanae, c.1759-1831(Nagoya: Matsuya Zenbei, 1817) 11 x 7 1/4 in.; traditional Japanese fukurotoji binding with embossed blue paper cover and printed title label; with cloth chitsu folding case. Containing a variety of plant and animal studies and legendary scenes, printed in black outline, gray and pale orange.
Provenance: From the Estate of Lionel Katzoff (1936-2022) longtime Baltimore resident and collector of Japanese art. Mr. Katzoff's collection of hand-printed Japanese books was the subject of an exhibition, "Gathering Jewels," at the Walters Art Museum in 2004. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Walters.

Condition
Covers with wear and some soiling, title label quite worn, the front with early inscription. Text good overall, with slightly more wear at the lower fore corner and scattered worm holes
