Original vintage Soviet movie poster for an Academy Award winning 1981 film based on a novel by Klaus Mann - Mephisto - directed by Istvan Szabo and starring Klaus Maria Brandauer as Hendrik Hofgen featuring a dynamic graphic design showing the face of a man in shades of red inside a black stripe down the centre with the figures of a German soldier and a young lady on the left and the face of a lady on the right below the credits, the stylised title text diagonally above in red lettering. This film was co-produced by West German, Hungarian and Austrian companies and was the first Hungarian film to win the Best Foreign Language Film award.
