Description
A rare three-piece set of Canadian silver by Montreal silversmiths Savage, Lyman & Co., consisting of a teapot, cream jug & sugar pot. Each piece shows lovely repoussé work of flowers and scrolls. The lid to the teapot showing a double knop stem. The body of each piece engraved with a double armorial crest. Research shows the hand holding a laurel wreath to be that of the Mitchell-Innes Family, and the Crescent moon with face possibly that of the Starnes Family. In 1870, Louise Amelia Lititia Starnes (the daughter of the 9th mayor of Montreal, Henry Starnes) married Alexander Ferdinand Henry Mitchell-Innes (Captain 60th Rifles), in Montreal. This silver service may very well have been a wedding gift at that time. Stamped Savage, Lyman & Co. within a rectangle to the base of each piece along with a standing lion & pseudo regent duty mark. Height of teapot, 6.5". Total weight, 1161 grams.
