Description
Carved Mahogany Campeche Chair,19th c., with a caned back and seat, with curved arms, on tapered turned legs with two leather covered removable cushions, H.- 39 in., W.- 39 in., D.- 44 in.
Condition
The overall condition of this chair is consistent with age and use. There are various dents and scratches throughout the wooden frame. A white scuff mark can be found on the outer side of the left arm, while there are small abrasions on the ends of both arms with varnish losses. On the right foot there is a notable chip in the top layer of varnish and small wood splinters protruding.
The edges of the back of the chair show some wear due to normal use. The caning on the reverse is slightly undone and frayed on the right side, while the seat caning has minor losses of the top layer in certain areas. The leather cushions exhibit discoloration, likely a result of water damage. This is a charming example.
