Description
USS Vulcan AR 5, commissioned June 14, 1941 and decommissioned Sept. 30, 1991. The Vulcan was the lead ship of the Vulcan class of Repair Ships and in 1978 became the first US Naval ship to deploy women other than nurses. USS Grapple ARS 53, commissioned Nov. 15, 1986 and decomissioned July 13, 2006. The USS Grapple was a search and rescue ship that participated in missions such as the 1996 TWA Flight 800, 1998 Swissair Flight 111, and 1999 Egypt Air Boeing 767. Also includes seven small brass presentation plaques, most for BMC DV/SW J.L. Vorodi who was on both The Vulcan and The Grapple. Measurements: Grapple 8-5/8" high x 6-3/4" wide. Vulcan 5-1/2" diameter. Presentation plaques 1" to 3-3/8" high x 3" to 4" wide. Condition: Light oxidation to Grapple. Some tarnishing and scratches to presentation plaques. DP.
