Vintage statue of Polar Bears in green-gold iridescent Eosin glaze, dimensions – 7.5 in. long x 4.75 in. tall, marked on bottom with Zsolnay mark and signed Nagy, M. for designer Mihaly Kapas Nagy. Nagy (1864-1943) was an artist, craftsman and sculptor employed by the Zsolnay Factory from 1888-1942. He was also one of the artists who taught at the technical school for ceramics run by the factory. Nagy’s job was mainly to design and execute sample pieces the factory would then produce in number. He designed many pieces for Zsolnay, “Polar Bears” being one of his most popular designs. This quality piece is in excellent condition.
