Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, with parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Late revolutionary war and early independent era mid-Atlantic United States. c1783. By Joseph de Laporte. Published in Paris. From ‘Atlas Moderne Portatif'. Map has some unusual boundaries, besides the strange shape of Virginia and Maryland, an undefined area separates Virginia and Pennsylvania. Maryland is shown with its first capital St. Marie. Delaware is called Delaware Cte. In Virginia, Alexandria is called Belhaven. Copperplate engraved, hand-colored. 8 3/4 x 7”. Excellent condition.
