Description
A fine antique Russian gilt silver mounted tiger-eye stone picture frame. Hallmarked on underside and leg-stand for St. Petersburg, 84, makers initials AN for Anders Nevalainen. Original leather back. Provenance: The frame was originally purchased at Sothebys Auction. Gallison Hall: The James F. Scott Collection, 15 October 2018 New York, lot 170. Note: Anders Juhaninpoika Nevalainen, 1858 to 1933, was a Finnish gold- and silversmith, and a Faberge workmaster. His workshop made silver-mounted frames in birchwood, palisander or lacquer, silver- and gold cigarette-cases, enameled silver-gilt cases with leather sleeves, several small silver-gilt objects.
