From Northern Peru, Chavin culture, ca. 900 to 500 BC. Fine strand of stone beads, most in slab form in deep blue/purple sodalite - a mineral found in the more famous lapis. Contemporary composition of ancient beads interspersed with black anthropomorphic beads and sodalite tube beads; elongated palettes, carved bird heads. Modern gold clasp. A beautiful and quite wearable work of ancient art!
