Description
Ca. 100-300 AD. A terracotta brick fragment featuring a unique stamp imprint of a crescent shape enclosing an inscription. Terracotta bricks were an essential building material used extensively in ancient Rome, from the humblest dwellings to grand public edifices. These bricks were molded from clay, then hardened through firing in a kiln, resulting in a strong and durable building material. The use of stamp imprints on terracotta bricks was a widespread practice in ancient Rome, used to mark ownership, denote building contracts, or to display the name of the brick manufacturer.
