Signed in the lower right. Plate on frame William Thornley Born 1857. Canvas was repaired in the lower middle area. Georges William Thornley is known for Seascape and landscape paintings, engraving, and lithography. A late 19th and early 20th century seascape and landscape painter, many of them watercolors, and especially of scenes of Normandy and the French and Italian Rivieras. Thornley was the son of a Welsch immigrant. He was especially noted for his watercolors, his impressionist style and for engravings and lithography. Thornley began exhibiting in 1878.Overall size: 16 x 14 in. Image size: 11 1/2 x 9 1/2 in.
