Oil on canvas, 1876, signed 'H.C. Delpy' and dated lower right, lined, with label from Stair-Sainty, London.
51 1/2 x 79 in., 61 x 88 in. (frame).
Note: Painted the year that Delpy moved with his family to the Barbizon forest, this Salon-scale work depicts an autumn harvesting of grapes in the Nivernais, in the Loire Valley. The Sancerre hills are depicted here in a richly colored view at dawn with heavy impasto, reminiscent of his contemporaries, the Impressionists.

Condition
