Ludvik “Louis” Durchanek1902-1976Ludvik W. (Louis) Durchanek, a renowned sculptor and painter was born in Vienna Austria. He studied painting with Umberto Romano and Jon Corbino at the Art Students’ League in New York.Durchanek exhibited his work at the National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Albany Institute of History & Art, Museum of Modern Art, Rhode Island School of Design, Silvermine Guild, Denver Art Museum, Los Angeles Museum of Art, St. Louis Art Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts etc.The estate of Vice President Nelson Rockefeller and other notable collectors own work by Ludvik W. The sketches were developed into a graphic narrative which was never published and is included in the collection.Arranged alphabetically, the Correspondence/subject files contains communications with galleries and friends and the guest list and invitation from Durchanek's seventieth birthday party in 1972.One untitled and unpublished autobiographical manuscript written in 1972 constitutes Writings.Memorabilia consists of clippings, printed material, and photographs of the artist and his work.
