Ellsworth Kelly was an American artist who was born on May 31, 1923, in Newburgh, New York, and died on December 27, 2015, in Spencertown, New York. He is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century and was known for his hard-edge painting style and his use of bright, bold colors. Kelly's early works were inspired by the simple shapes and colors of nature, such as leaves and branches. He then began to create abstract compositions using geometric shapes and flat planes of color. His works often played with the relationship between color, form, and space, and he sought to create a direct and immediate visual experience for the viewer. Kelly's works can be found in major museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Some of his notable works include the Spectrumseries, the Chatham series, and the Curveseries. Kelly also created many large-scale public sculptures, such as Austin,"a 2,715-square-foot building located in Austin, Texas, and Curve XXIV, a monumental sculpture located in the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris.
