Raymond Depardon is a French photographer, filmmaker, and journalist, born in 1942 in Villefranche-sur-Saône, France. He is best known for his photojournalism work covering social and political issues in France and around the world.Depardon began his career as a photographer in the 1960s and quickly gained recognition for his work. He joined the Magnum Photos agency in 1978 and became a full member in 1981. He has covered a wide range of topics during his career, including conflicts in Africa and the Middle East, and social issues such as mental illness and rural life.In addition to his photography work, Depardon is also a renowned filmmaker. He has directed numerous documentaries and feature films, including "San Clemente" (1982), which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.Depardon has received many awards and honors throughout his career, including the Henri Cartier-Bresson Award in 2008 and the Prix Nadar in 2010 for his book "La Solitude heureuse du voyageur de commerce" (The Happy Solitude of the Traveling Salesman). His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and he is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential photojournalists of his generation.
