VERY FINE BLACK DUCK attributed to Lysander Sherman, Marshfield, MA, circa 1930s. Very good original paint and structural condition. Some minor wear to tail edges and top of head. Head has been reset. Wide body model with nice scratch feather paint to body. Turned head with detailed paint ticking and glass eyes. Notch-bill carving with carved nail and mandible detail. Weight removed. Branded CHOUTEAU. Pierre "Pete" Chouteau, Jr., served as a game warden for the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Games. He was also a direct descendant of the famous French fur trader and explorer, Auguste Chouteau (1749-1829), who was also one of the co-founders of the city of St. Louis, MO. Overall length is approximately 16 inches. A very fine and early Massachusetts decoy. 400-600
