Description
A RUSSIAN EMPIRE PARCEL GILT GREEN LACQUERED EAGLE LEG SETTEE, EARLY 19TH CENTURY, the serpentine crest centers acanthus leaf furls and a shell fan ending with curled tips and scrolled acanthus leaf encrusted ears, over a trapezoidal shaped upholstered back within two outwardly rolled arms terminating in applied floret medallions upheld by gesso and gilt carved mahogany eagles, twisting and with angled spread wings, the whole in original dark green lacquer paint with gilt details, now covered in aubergine velvet. Height: 39 1/4" Width: 96" (8ft) Depth: 31" Woods: Larch and Mahogany
Condition
Seat support replaced and lacking original bench, now with cable wire support over old curved supports, loss of paint, gilt and gesso occasionally throughout, later upholstery with rubbed pile wear with apparent loss, some wear and losses at feet. Lacquer notably close to Scheele's Green.
