A Chinese orange-ground goldwork dragon robe
early 19th century
With goldwork 'dragon chasing a flaming pearl', bat, wave, and forbidden stitched floral motifs throughout.
H: 43, W: 53 in.
H: 109.22, W: 134.62 cm.
Provenance: Ms. Sherman, Colorado. The collection was inherited from her grandfather, John H. Reisner. Mr. Reisner went to Nanjing in 1914 and stayed until 1928. Mr. Reisner was an agriculture expert from Cornell University and went to Nanjing to help setup the agriculture department at Nanking University. These items were collected during the time Mr. Reisner was in China.

Condition
Thread pulling and loss throughout. Seam ripping and fraying to one cuff and collar trim.
