Item Details
Description
Gothic Virgin from the 14th-15th centuries.
Wood carving.
Measurements: 63 cm (height).
Marian representation carved in wood, from the Gothic period. The Virgin is practically carved in the round, but it was intended for frontal contemplation, which is why the back is not carved. The Virgin's face is serene, with perfect symmetry of the features, which have been naturalised, balancing the timeless aura of the image with a certain humanisation and naturalism, despite the schematism that still lingers from previous periods. The body is covered with a tunic whose vertical folds accentuate the balanced canon of the figure. The Virgin is crowned, as was customary from the Romanesque period.
