Translated according to the Ebrew and Greeke,...], lacking initial 20ff., including general title (all before B1 ([-]4, ¶8, A8)), lacking all after 3Z10 at end (A-L8, M4), with New Testament title (*1), double column in black letter, woodcut initials, multiple ink ownership inscriptions (to NT title, 3I4 blank verso, front endpaper verso) and a few small ink markings to text, modern printed clippings laid down to pastedowns, trimming to top edge throughout, often affecting headlines with losses (no loss to text), a few ff. with minor worming at inner margin (affecting side-notes with loss of a few letters), 4ff. with tears and repairs (varying methods), affecting text but very minor losses (D1, A8, 2X8, 3Z10), uniform browning, scattered spots and instances of minor soiling, contemporary calf, rebacked, upper joint cracked but firm, spine and corners worn, [STC 2134; Herbert 174], 4to, Christopher Barker, 1582.
⁂ Known as the "Breeches bible" due to its unique translation of Genesis 3:7, "Then the eies of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed figge tree leaves together, and made themselves breeches". Editions before 1560 and those after the King James version, had or reverted to the translation of "aprons". This copy lacking the 'Two Right Profitable and Fruitful Concordances...' (A-L8), which was issued by Barker as part of this edition.
