Description
**First Time At Auction**
Western Europe, England, Neoclassical / Georgian era, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A fine pair of antique gold fob seals inlaid with engraved stones, the ring handles cast from 43% to 45.5% gold (equivalent to 10K+). The white chalcedony stone is engraved with a man's bust in profile, with a classical laurel wreath crown and strong Grecian nose. The other intaglio is a red jasper with a more linear and simplistic depiction of a standing horse - with a wing- likely Pegasus- with a woman in robes to the right. Fob seals were worn on watch fobs as accessories for gentlemen - they were often purely decorative, but the more personalized were used to sign documents. Both are approximately the same size. Size: 0.65" W x 0.8" H (1.7 cm x 2 cm); gold quality: 43% to 45.5% (equivalent to 10K+); silver quality: 10% to 16%; total weight: 7 grams
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
