Description

Federal birch tall case clock, with arched top, pierced fretwork and plinths with brass finials; rectangular door with applied molded border, turned hood supports with brass capitals; fluted quarter columns in base with brass capitals, base ending in bracket feet. Painted iron dial with floral spandrels and bird decoration in tombstone top; brass 8-day movement with original weights; dial signed "David Wood – Newburyport"; movement by David Wood, Newburyport, Mass, circa 1810. 88" high, 20 3/4" wide, 11 1/4" deep. Some repairs and restorations, mostly to fretwork and plinths. Provenance: Max Webber, Inc., Middleton, Mass. 1966.
