Featured in this lot is this 1949 Williams Electronic Games Incorporated pinball machine titled, "Maryland". Harry Williams established Williams Electronic Games, Inc. (WEG) in Chicago, Illinois, in 1943. WEG was a significant American producer of pinball and arcade games. During the 1950s and 1960s, the company was a leading manufacturer of pinball machines. Later, it diversified into the production of video arcade games and slot machines. "Maryland," which debuted in 1949, was one of Williams' first pinball machines. A straightforward electro-mechanical pinball machine was used to play the game, which featured vibrant images of the state of Maryland, including one of the Maryland State House in Annapolis. The pinball machine shows an all wood construction with few metal components. The back glass shows a graphic of three women in summer outfits picking what appear to be grapes from a vineyard. It shows a blue sky with big rolling white clouds throughout. It reads towards the top, "Williams Maryland" in red and black lettering. The back glass also shows the numbers that light up when the player is playing showing point in the thousands, hundred of thousands and finally millions. The back glass shows colors of red, blue, yellow, pink, purple, white, black and grey. The playing field shows vivid colored abstract shapes with colors of red, light blue, dark blue, yellow and white. Most of the rubber bumpers have been broken on the playing field, along with some metal components. The playing field comes with 5 metal playing balls. The glass over the playing field is missing. The electrical components sit in the back and show good condition. The machine turns on and functions slightly and has the lights light up. The machine measures 56" L x 25" W x 64 3/4" H.
