Allegory of Sculpture 1700 Oil On Canvas Painting. Beautiful painting of cupid attendants assisting a lady sculptor at work. Labeled with brass tag, "Sculpture French School, 1700." Visible image measures approx. 31" X 46". Frame measures 39 1/2" X 55". Labeled on verso of frame reads, "Property held by Mrs. Olga M. Queeny as Trustee for Mrs. Olguita Queeny Berington." This painted descended from the collection of John Francis Queeny (1859-1933) and his wife Olga Mendez Monsanto. Mr. Queeny was an American business man known for founding Monsanto Chemical Works (later Monsanto) in St. Louis, Missouri, 1901. Mr. Monsanto named the company after his wife. Parke-Bernet Galleries conducted an auction of fine paintings, including paintings from the property of Olguita Queeny Berington, St. Louis, Missouri in 1939. Stamped on verso of frame molding, "Selkirk Galleries, St. Louis, Missouri." Provenance: Lynne Fairchild Spragins Dodson estate, Jackson, Tennessee. Condition- Painting has craquelure. One small repaired area in tree, upper left. Canvas has one tear in upper right, approx. 2" long and needs to be re-stretched. Frame has heavy craquelure, some old repairs, and
