Quilted And Embroidered Festival Decoration For Cow, India, Early-Mid 20th C. Cotton, applique, embroidery. The opening in the upper center is for the Brahman cow hump. Cows are considered sacred animals in Hindu communities and so are worshipped and decorated during festivals. Size: 5'7'' x 4'2'' (170 x 127 cm). Provenance: The Carol Summers Collection of Indian Folk Textiles.
