The Byzantine plate is a square with a lion or dog in relief, and attachment rings along one side - possibly missing an attached bar opposite the rings, for looping through a strap. The clasp was for a dress, and has a hook on one end and a hidden loop for sewing into clothing, covered by the panel and applied rosette, this type of clothing closure dates to post Medieval periods. The shield shaped fibula brooch has a prominent central boss, and the pin clasp is still intact- a garment fastener and precursor to the dress hook.
