Description
Bursztynowicz, Henry ( American 1922-2001), Bent Column (Folded Slab No. 42), 1982, polished and carved travertine marble on a slate base, 23.5 inches tall, signed on the base Henry B. Provenance: The Estate of Henry Bursztynowicz. Exhibited: Greensburg Invitational, 1982; Spangler Cummings, Columbus, OH, 1987. Bursztynowicz was a regional Western Pennsylvania sculptor working around the height of the abstract expressionist movement. Bursztynowicz received his education from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and Instituto del Arte, Florence, Italy. He was a faculty member at the University of Missouri and he taught at Pittsburgh Arts and Crafts Center (now Pittsburgh Center for the Arts). Pittsburgh Center for the Arts honored Henry Bursztynowicz with a retrospective of his works in 2009.
