WORLD WAR II U.S. 25TH INFANTRY DIVISION UNIFORM
WORLD WAR II U.S. 25TH INFANTRY DIVISION UNIFORM
Item Details
Description
Very nice uniform set belonging to a member of the U.S. 25th Infantry Division, consisting of a tunic, trousers and jacket. The OD green ‘Ike’ style jacket, constructed of gabardine, displays four overseas stripes near the right cuff, indicating two years of overseas service. The embroidered emblem of the division is also sewn to the right sleeve. Two ‘U.S.’ pins affixed to the upper lapels. The owner of this jacket held the rank of lieutenant colonel as evidenced by the pair of silver oak leaves on either shoulder strap. Appearing next to the rank insignia on the shoulder straps are a pair of insignia badges for the 4th Cavalry Regiment, which served as part of the 25th Infantry Division. Sewn to the left sleeve is an insignia patch for the 4th Armored Division, the 25th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized) being one of the many units making up this division. This soldier clearly remained active as seen by the fine ribbon bar displayed on the left breast, whose ribbons include: Legion of Merit; Bronze Star; Joint Service Commendation; Army Commendation; Army of Occupation; National Defense; Korean Service with three bronze service stars; Vietnam Service; Armed Forces Reserve; United Nations Korea Service; Republic of Korea War Service; Republic of Vietnam Campaign. At the right side of the silk lining is an original maker’s tag from ‘SCHWARTZ’ of Cincinnati. Light staining to the armpits, indicating this piece was well-used, else in excellent condition. WITH OD green tunic bearing the red and yellow insignia patch for the 25th Infantry Division. No maker’s tag, however, attached to the bottom right edge is a period laundry tag bearing the owner’s name ‘B Baumann’. A few minor moth holes. WITH a pair of OD green trousers, secured closed at the front by five green buttons. Owner’s name is handwritten at the interior, also stamped with several varying numbers. Three pieces, fine. The 25th Division, based at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, was activated on 1 October 1941 in Hawaii, slightly more than a month before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. After spending almost a year in training, the division fought in the Guadalcanal Campaign, the invasion of Luzon in January of 1945, and in the Occupation of Japan after its surrender. They have since served in the Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan.
