Description
(b. 1946) Forty-second President of the United States, the first elected president to be impeached. ON THE OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING Very fine content T.L.S. as President on White House letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Washington, May 15, 1995 to a lady in nearby Rockville, Maryland. In full: 'Dear Anne: Thank you for writing about the tragic bombing in Oklahoma City and for sharing the inspiring historical quotation with me. As America seeks to recover from this brutal attack, we must do all we can to help heal the emotional and physical wounds, to rebuild Oklahoma City, and to bring to swift and certain justice those who committed this act of cowardice. Your words of encouragement mean a great deal to me during this difficult time for our nation...' Very fine condition. Only four days earlier, ex-Army soldier and security guard Timothy McVeigh parked a rented Ryder truck in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City. When the ammonium nitrate bomb in his truck exploded, 168 people were killed, including 19 children, with several hundred more injured. It was the worst American-based terrorist act to date. McVeigh's signed 'rationale' for his deed is offered elsewhere in this sale.
