WIKIPEDIA: Symon Vasylyovych Petliura (22 May 1879 - May 25, 1926) was a Ukrainian politician and journalist. He became the Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian People's Army (UNA) and the President of the Ukrainian People's Republic during the Ukrainian War of Independence , later the Soviet-Ukrainian war 1917-1922 and Polish-Soviet War following the fall of the Russian Empire in 1917. After the Bolshevik victory in the war, Petliura went into exile. The UNA were responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Jewish civilians during the conflict, and Petliura was assassinated in Paris in 1926 by Jewish anarchist Sholem Schwarzbard, who had lost relatives in the pogroms.
