⁂ A very good copy of Ray's important work on fossils, in which he also discusses volcanoes, earthquakes and other natural phenomena. He looks at how marine fossils came to be in rocks now far from the sea. Hook had suggested physical changes in the rocks caused by earthquakes at the time of the biblical flood. Ray suggests changes in the earth's centre of gravity, and enlarges on the importance of running water on land, and the encroachment of the sea on the shore.
