Helen LaFrance (American/Kentucky, 1919-2020) oil on canvas horizontally oriented painting depicting an African landscape with a herd of zebras on a grassy plain and trees with verdant foliage in the foreground, set against a tan backdrop with bright orange paint along the horizon line, indicating a sunrise or sunset. Signed "Helen La France" lower right. Unframed. 19 1/2" H x 34" W. Biography: "Self-taught African American artist Helen LaFrance was born on a Kentucky farm and began painting in her 40s. She is known for her "memory paintings"-drawn from her recollections of life growing up in the rural South. Several museums and private collectors, including Oprah Winfrey, own examples of her work." Condition
Painting has duct tape residue around the perimeter edge on all four sides. There are a few scratches, largest 5" L. Otherwise in good condition.
