Description
Flemish School oil on canvas cabinet sized painting after the self portrait by Peter Paul Rubens (Flemish/Belgium/Germany, 1577-1640) originally executed in 1638, currently held in the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien. The painting portrays the artist attired in a heavy black coat and wide-brimmed hat, in three quarter profile, gazing at the viewer. Housed in a giltwood molded frame. Sight: 11 1/8" H x 7 7/8" W. Framed: 14 1/4" H x 11" W. 19th century or earlier.

Condition
Craquelure throughout. Creasing from stretcher visible to right and lower portions. Alligatoring to paint layer with some fine corresponding losses to paint on the lower half of portrait; a couple of tiny flakes to lower center edge and lower right corner. Frame with scattered minor losses to gilt.
