Erasmus, Desiderius In Evangelium Lucae paraphrasis Basel: Froben, 1540. 8vo (15 x 10.5cm), 17th or 18th-century speckled sheep ruled in blind, edges sprinkled red, printer's woodcut device to title-page and verso of final leaf, binding rubbed in places, short crack to foot of front joint, early ink inscription to head of title, a few early ink underlinings and marginalia [Adams E761] Qty: (1) Note: Erasmus's paraphrase of the Gospel of Luke was first printed in 1523, also by Froben. The dedication is to Henry VIII. Provenance: From the library of the earls of Macclesfield at Shirburn Castle, with bookplate to front pastedown and blind stamp to title-page and following leaf as usual.
