Description
BASS, VAUGHAN ALDEN (1931-2019) "Antonino Rocca." Oil on canvas; 24 x 24 inches. Illustration for wrestling trade card from the "Ringside" series (R411), issued in 1951 by Topps Chewing Gum Company. Signed lower right. Framed. Vaughan Bass was a master of pin-up art, but he did not limit himself to just cheesecake. He was also an expert at beefcake, as in this portrait of famous “high-flying” Italian Argentine professional wrester Antonino Rocca (1921-1977). A signature move of Rocca’s was to leap across the ring at his opponent in a fully extended leg-split as shown here. 1951
