William Lester Stevens
Massachusetts,1888-1969
Impressionist depiction of an open field with a smattering of trees sporting pale red leaves. Stevens studied under Parker Perkins before entering the Boston Museum School as a student of Edmund Tarbell, Frank Benson, Philip Hale and William Paxton. He taught at Princeton and Boston Universities, and later helped organize the Rockport Art Association, the Conway Festival of the Hills and the Berkshire Arts Festival.
Oil on board,Board 18 1/2" x 12 1/2".Frame 24" x 27 1/2"
Signed "W. Lester Stevens" lower left corner, marked "N.H. Historical Society Gift if rge Nurses N.H.S.H (Matthew IV)" with various writings on verso.
