Harold Nelson Gibbs
Rhode Island, Massachusetts,1886-1970
Finely carved pheasant with glossy black eyes carved by Harold Gibbs, known for his realistic carved wood birds. Gibbs was a self taught artist and scientist, never receiving a degree beyond his high school diploma but became an acknowledged expert on the ecology of Narragansett Bay which led to an appreciation of birds.
Wood,Approx. 3 1/2" t x 2 1/2" w x 6 1/4" d.
Signed and dated "HNG 1945"
From the collection of an Uxbridge, Massachusetts estate.
