sight: 20 x 30 in., frame: 28 x 38 in.
Provenance: A Fort Worth, Texas collection
Jim Dooley painted western scenes during the 1960's and the 1970's. A self-taught artist, Dooley painted primarily southwestern and Texas Hill Country scenes, including bluebonnets. He was originally from Hope, Arkansas and moved to Austin, Texas when he was a young child. His paintings were represented by the Gannaway Gallery and the Country Store Gallery in Austin, Texas and the Southwestern Gallery in Houston, Texas. In the 1970's, his paintings were sent to galleries in Odessa, Rockport, Longview, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio. His paintings were owned by Supreme Court Justices, the Capitol National Bank of Houston, the Austin National Bank, and the Del Rio Band and Trust Company. Tragically, he died in a car accident at the age of 38. His works are rare and sought-after by collectors of fine Texas art.
