Description
NEW ENGLAND "LOG CABIN" PIECED COMFORT / BED COVER, hand- and machine-stitched, 42 pattern blocks in solid and print fabrics, made of over 800 pieces, having applied binding, all four sides featuring applied pieced border in various print fabrics with sawtooth outer edge and applied binding, pieced backing having solid square blocks alternating with four-patch and nine-patch blocks, border backed by mostly the same print fabric that has a printed "[PATE]NT APPLIED FOR FEB 1879" date in one corner and "[G?]REENE & SONS" along one side. Probably New Hampshire. Circa 1880. 57" x 69 1/2" edge of inner binding, 65" x 77" OA.
Provenance:
Purchased from a small auction in Concord, New Hampshire, where it came from a local estate.
Condition
Fair to good overall condition, top with some light to moderate toning, scattered stains and spotting, one half with light to moderate fading, some tears including one piece of fabric being mostly detached, outer binding with some tears/holes mostly at one end having moderate fading, backing with areas of toning and discoloration, some scattered stains and fading to edges.
