Item Details

Description

An antique mid 19th Century ormolu bronze lidded and hinged jewelry box casket by Alphonse Giroux & Cie (Paris). Exemplary design with an oval body encircled by ornate raised relief floral and garland designs, and featuring four (4) pewter figurines depicting male and female figures. Interior lined with red velvet fabric. Lid having a sumptuous rounded form with encircling panels of guilloche enamel floral decoration, and surmounted by a pewter figurine finial with a recumbent female figure surrounded by flora. Incised to rim at lock ALPH. GIROUX & CIE PARIS. The maker was an artisan to the French royal family, and won a silver medal for a jewelry box at the 1839 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie Francaise (Exhibition of Products of French Industry) in Paris. Surmounting four (4) scrolling form feet.

Dimensions: 6 X 8 X 6 in.

Condition: Good overall antique condition having mild age related surface wear. Lock snap works; no key. Estate fresh to the market.
